Executive Producer

Duties

  • Oversees newscast talent, producers and crew and helps plan stories in advance, as well as approving scripts, copy and social media content for daily newscasts. Executive producers are often assigned to a specific daypart of the station's news product (e.g., evening newscasts and weekend newscasts could have different executive producers).
  • Connects with their viewing audience and creates content that strengthens the station brand and generates positive feedback.

Qualifications

  • Deadline-oriented and budget conscious, able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledgeable about the production and technical aspects of creating a news program.

Experience Level

  • A bachelor's degree in broadcast television or journalism.
  • Five or more years of experience in television newscast writing and producing.
  • Prior management experience.
