Station Manager

Duties

  • Manages with a hands-on approach the day-to-day operations of a television station.
  • Works with department heads to create a collaborative work environment.
  • Oversees business operations from personnel management and budget monitoring to equipment maintenance and overall facility hygiene.
  • Ensures the TV station is compliant with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Works with the engineering department to ensure all equipment is in good working order, with contingency plans in place so nothing derails a newscast.
  • Works closely with the news director to ensure the department represents the integrity and values set at the top and that the news and other local programming meet quality control standards and deliver content relevant to the local community.

Qualifications

  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Great interpersonal skills and both verbal and written communications abilities.

Experience Level

  • More than seven years in a station leadership role, preferably with five or more years in station management.
  • Master's degree preferred in business, communications or a related field.
  • Requires a good working knowledge of broadcast equipment and software.

Many successful station managers are promoted directly into the general manager role.
